A few months back… way back, Marillyn of “Just Making Noise” had a contest and was giving away a one gallon ”Fermented Vegetable Master”! Yup you heard me… a Fermented V-E-G-E-T-A-B-L-E Master! So I jumped at the opportunity to enter Marillyn’s contest (not even knowing what a fermented veggie master even was!)… never dreaming I would win and guess what?
I WON! Thanks to Marillyn and Culture for Your Health!
Now I can make my very own sauerkraut, pickles and other fermented vegetables… even kimchi right in my own kitchen! Isn’t that exciting!
Follow along with me as I make my first batch of kraut!
The day came and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on my new Veggie Master!
I was so excited and still am to this day!
Wow take a look at this “veggie master”!

Looks like it could take off at any moment!
Ok… let’s see how this baby works!
I packed it full of chopped…
- cabbage
- carrots
- onion
- garlic
- sea salt
- and can’t leave out a sprinkle of cayenne pepper!
Making sure it’s pounded down real good to release all the juices! (next time I will mix-n-pound in a bowl first and then put it in the jar!)
Oh my…did I pound too much? It shrunk! Next time I will use two heads of cabbage!

Tighten down the lid… fill the tube to water level and insert into lid, place in a dark cool place and wait three to five days… waiting is the hard part!
It’s been three days and I couldn’t wait any longer… so let’s peek inside!

It was absolutely delicious… so crunchy, sweet, sour and spicy all in the same bite!
