A burger without meat?

31 Aug

OK are you ready for this? You are going to love it!
Millet burgers… yup I said millet! Millet has a nutty-like flavor, high in protein, fiber, B vitamins, rich in iron, magnesium, phosphorous, and potassium just to name a few! It’s not an acid forming food (like meat) so it is much easier to digest! I have tried all kinds of so called veggie burgers and this one holds it own.
While living in Asia I put em to the test,  made a big batch and invited all the staff  from the local gym over to my house for a home cooked “healthy” vegetarian meal! Now if you know anything about Asians and  their food… you would know exactly what I was up against!  :)
All you Asian’s out their tell em what I’m talking about! :)
Well back to the Millet Burgers and my Asian friends…
Wow… did I show them!  Guess what?  They chowed down and even asked for seconds!
Sure do miss you guys… if you see this give me a shout!

The "Fitness Studio" gang!

So here is what you have been waiting for!
Introducing the Millet Burger in all its glory!  May I pleazzzzzeee have a drumrollllllll……….
millet burger

 MILLET BURGER

1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup ground walnuts
½ cup ground pumpkin & sunflower seeds
1 red onion minced
2-3 cloves of garlic minced
1/8 cup agave nectar (or other sweetener)
1Tbl. basil
¾ tsp. oregano
¾ tsp. thyme
1Tbl. kelp (or other salt substitute)

Mix  ingredients well
add
2 cup whole wheat bread crumbs
4 cup cooked millet

Form into patties, balls or loaf and
Proceed to cook as you would any kind of burger, dip in a sauce or slap on a bun
* Leftovers freeze well

These are the best!

I discovered that if I take half of the mixed ingredients and blend well in my food processor, then add it back to the mixture…. form into burgers etc…they hold together better!

I will be making the burgers, but I want to know: what delicious looking creamy white sauce is that on the bun? Is it some kind of cucumber raita or dahl? Recipe, please?
